News: Iranian director to show different homeland |
Iranian director Majid Majidi wants his films to show Western audiences a different image of his homeland, saying Western media portrayals of Iran ignored the country's rich history.
Majidi, best known for his Oscar-nominated film "Children of Heaven," is back in US cinemas this month with his latest movie "Song of Sparrows," the touching story of an ostrich farmer who falls on hard times.
The film, released in US theaters on Friday, has earned critical plaudits for its portrayal of rural life in Iran and striking cinematography depicting the country's natural beauty.
Majidi told reporters here he wanted the film to give audiences a different view of Iran to its common portrayal in US media as an ideological foe hell-bent on acquiring a nuclear arsenal.

News: Noor Adorns The Director's Cap ? |
She is the much-married film star who came back to the industry just to do a few projects and shone like a star in Zill-e-Shah. Yes, folks, we are talking about the petite lady named Noor. According to the plan, she was supposed to return back home to Dubai to hubby dearest, but what to do, the arch lights are hard to resist, you see! More on Noor is that she is planning to venture into film direction. For her directorial debut, titled Heer, Noor first thought of roping in Shaan so that she could thank him for giving her a fabulous comeback role. Then comes the news that Mommar Rana will be the hero. Negating the rumours, she says, "At the moment the script is being written for my film and once that is completed only then the cast will be finalized accordingly." Fair enough, Noor ji, but don't forget that you have a debt to pay to the gundasa wielding gujjar ala Sultan Rahi Shaan ji

News: Shaan's Makeover |
Shaan is a man who is handsome, charismatic and has all the allure one requires to be a superhero. There are two kinds of Shaan, one, the gandasa wielding Gujjar Badmaash, second, the oh-so-sophisticated Shaan from the music video Khamaj. In recent times, however, Shaan has tried to change his image through ads, appearing in a high-end cellular company’s commercial along with his recent ad for a multinational soap brand. After watching these ads, one cringes insides and wishes that he would stop doing all those horrific flicks. More on the soap ad: Shaan is paired with Iman Ali, another supermodel/actress who is devastatingly gorgeous, and they simply light up the screen. Aww, so cute! But the sad part is that Shaan refuses to leave the gandasa and the heavy-duty heroines that he ends up being paired with.

News: MEERA The Tussle Between Babe N Mum |
The complex personality of Irtiza Rubab, alias Meera, has a very positive side to it! True, there are collision courses, but she has that surge of emotions that is endemic to cinema, and works well in films. We have seen that kind of brilliance in another emotionally haywire actress, Roohi Bano, in the past. But, when you talk of Meera, she is given to these rumbustious displays of anger that have become a part of her personality. Roohi Bano was not known for that kind of behaviour, at least on regular basis. Latest news is that Meera has had a grave tussle with her mom on the issue of her current domestic and career decisions that have been backfiring on a large scale, to the extent that her career graph has become a chandmari ke maidan!
