Aap Jaisa Koi - Nazia Hassan |
 |
|
Nazia Hassan died in London on August 13, 2000 Remember Nazia Hassan, the Pakistani singer whose song "Aap jaisa koi" in the film "Qurbani" made her an instant hit in India? August 13 marks her ninth death anniversary.
If "Aap jaisa koi" won Nazia, who was then 15, the Filmfare Best Female Singer award in 1981, it was her album "Disco Deewane" that created a new genre of Bollywood pop that survives to this day. Britain-based Indian composer Biddu, who had composed both the song and the album, had said at the time, perhaps tongue in cheek, that through Nazia he hoped to do for India what the pop group ABBA did for Sweden, both in terms of country exposure and album sales.
That didn't happen for a variety of reasons, but Nazia's legacy lives on to this day and for die-hard pop music lovers no collection is complete without "Disco Deewane".

News: Jarrar Rizvi has also ousted film star Meera |
 |
|
LAHORE: Following Sangeeta, another film director Jarrar Rizvi has also
ousted film star Meera from his upcoming film project, a private TV
channel reported on Friday. Rizvi said he had to cancel shooting his
film on several occasions due to Meera. "I think she is out of her mind," he said. The actress would not give anyone any importance and attempted to lecture the directors, he said. Rizvi said Meera's attitude towards the local film industry had changed after working in Indian films. He said he would never cast Meera in any of his projects and film actress Sajna would replace Meera in his current project.

After moving a lot in the underground music scenario and pushing my way through many claiming to be great acts, I stumbled upon a bloke who did not say much at all - a little surprised in a pleasant way I inquired what was his band all about - hesitantly and in a very cultured manner he began to tell about the band called Lagan. As it turned out the band was not a new outfit at all and my talking partner turned out to be the spokesperson of the band.
We talked and talked for what seemed an eternity - music is such a topic that it drowns you in itself - and voila there we were. Promised to meet another day we parted ways - eventually to meet up in a few days and sit down for this interview.
The affable Farhan led me to the dim lit sitting room in Saad's house and after a bout of cold drinks we got down to business. As Saadi and Farhan were detailing the progress of Lagan, Sami walked in and now the trio was assembled. To my utter surprise the lads turned out to be a strictly non smoking brotherhood.
