  Senior actor Ilyas Kashmiri (Taya jee) passed away on December 12, 2007. He was 80 years old. His first film was Abida before partition. In Pakistan, he was introduced hero with Ragni in film Mundri (1949) but he gained popularity as
villain actor. Mahi Munda and Yakke Wali were two all time best films for him. He played title roles in film like Murad, Jagga, Shera, Banarsi Thugg, Gama B.A., Ustad Shagird, Ayyash etc. He produced Urdu film Ishq par zor nahin (1963). He was seen in more than 450 films.

BBC Asian Network has been accused by some in the music industry of ignoring Pakistani tunes on its radio shows. The popular radio station is funded by the BBC in order to serve the British Asian community. But from a snapshot of its recent playlists, it is found that songs by people of Pakistani descent – either British-Pakistani or Pakistan-born – hardly get an airing on the station.
